PORT OF SALALAH SIGNS NEW BULK CUSTOMER


The Port of Salalah’s General Cargo Terminal received the maiden call of the M.V Nord Empathy a vessel exporting Limestone for Majan Mining Company. The first shipload of 55,000 tonnes of bulk limestone is being loaded and is scheduled to depart Salalah on 19th February delivering its cargo to customers in India . Majan Mining Company which is an Omani company has plans to export up to 2 million tonnes of limestone cargo in 2009.

 

Ali Shamas, General Manager of the General Cargo Terminal Said “We are delighted to sign Majan Mining Company as our latest exporter. We have achieved double digit growth each year in bulk cargo for 8 consecutive years.  The signing of a new customer that will have regular shipments and bring significant throughput to the port is another significant milestone for us. In recent year we have been expanding the General Cargo Terminal with new deepwater berths and facilities to cater for multiple cargo types. These latest expansions at the General Cargo Terminal offer excellent facilities for bulk and liquid cargoes and are positive developments for the long-term future of the Port and the Free Zone”.
